Family Messenger, October 30 2012

God our Father,
We pray for all who have died,
especially our loved ones and people in our community.
May they move closer to you every day and come to live
in your presence forever.
Amen.

A Message from the Principal
Thursday is the Solemnity of All Saints, or All Saints Day, and we celebrate the lives of all the saints who now live in Christ. The third grade class has been researching the lives of saints and will conclude the project with a special presentation for Mass. The students will be dressed as saints, and present facts about the lives of the saints to the congregation. We thank Mrs. Lomasto and the third grade class for their preparation and sharing at mass.

Sincerely,
Diana Girskis

A Message from the Principal

As some of you have already heard, we had a terrible loss on Saturday.  Monsignor Pat Thompson collapsed at the rectory, the ambulance was called, and then he was taken to the hospital and died. Monsignor Zak was with him the entire time, and he was able to administer the anointing of the sick to him. Monsignor Pat had many health issues and it was just his time to go.  None of us really knew how sick he was.  Monsignor Zak said to the children yesterday, that he is in a happier place, and that he is no longer sick anymore just happy to be in heaven.  Our thoughts and prayers are for him and his family and when we get any information about the services we will let you know.

Sincerely,
Diana Girskis

A Message from the Principal
The children are doing a great job in school so far! I read all the progress reports, and I can tell that they are working hard. Thanks to the teachers and the parents for making that possible. Please remind your students that if they have any questions, they need to speak to their teachers and find out the answer. The teachers are doing their best to help your child succeed, so please don’t hesitate to ask. I can’t wait to see the report cards.

Keep up the great job!!

ASP will be held in the Auditorium on Thursday mornings.

Important Morning Carpool Change:
Effective immediately, during morning carpool there will be NO PARKING in the school yard. After dropping your children off, if you have business to take care of in the office or need to buy scrip, please park in the church parking lot and walk around to the school office. As Principal, I am committed to providing the highest degree of safety to our students. After helping with morning carpool, I have decided to make this change. The practice of parking your vehicles in the yard and then walking our students across the stop and go traffic unprotected increases the risk of injury to all involved, therefore there will be no parking in the school yard. I thank you for your cooperation.

Lord God,
Help us to give from our hearts out of love.
Help us to desire justice more than praise.
Show us how to live with gratitude, praising you forever.

A Message from the Principal

This Friday students in grades 1-8 will receive a copy of their first mid-trimester progress reports. This is an opportunity to see how your child is progressing in each area before the official reporting period ends on November 30. As I addressed the students at yesterday’s assembly, I asked them to reflect upon their progress in school thus far. I asked them to set specific goals to works towards for the remainder of the trimester. Don’t hesitate to ask your child about his/her goals and work with them in this goal-setting to ensure their best quality work! Have a great week!

Many of you are already aware of Día de los Muertos, the Mexican tradition of celebrating the lives of those who have died and its significance in the Mexican culture. In recent years, it has become popular in Los Angeles. The celebration takes place on November 1, in connection with our Catholic holidays of All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day. This year I would like to share the meaning of the day by having an all school ofrenda, a traditional altar, in front of the main office.  This altar is to honor anyone in their world who they want to honor. If the children have lost a family relative or friend they can bring a picture or small personal item to place on the altar. This is optional, and the children don’t have to participate, but I have placed a few things on the altar and I want to let the children in the school know that they can place things there if they want to throughout the month of October. Please label all items with your child’s name and grade so that we can return them to your family.

Sincerely,
Diana C. Girskis
