WEEKLY BULLETIN
October 9, 2012
Lord God,
Help us to give from our hearts out of love.
Help us to desire justice more than praise.
Show us how to live with gratitude, praising you forever.
Amen.
A Message from the Principal
This Friday students in grades 1-8 will receive a copy of their first mid-trimester progress reports. This is an opportunity to see how your child is progressing in each area before the official reporting period ends on November 30. As I addressed the students at yesterday’s assembly, I asked them to reflect upon their progress in school thus far. I asked them to set specific goals to works towards for the remainder of the trimester. Don’t hesitate to ask your child about his/her goals and work with them in this goal-setting to ensure their best quality work! Have a great week!
Many of you are already aware of Día de los Muertos, the Mexican tradition of celebrating the lives of those who have died and its significance in the Mexican culture. In recent years, it has become popular in Los Angeles. The celebration takes place on November 1, in connection with our Catholic holidays of All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day. This year I would like to share the meaning of the day by having an all school ofrenda, a traditional altar, in front of the main office. This altar is to honor anyone in their world who they want to honor. If the children have lost a family relative or friend they can bring a picture or small personal item to place on the altar. This is optional, and the children don’t have to participate, but I have placed a few things on the altar and I want to let the children in the school know that they can place things there if they want to throughout the month of October. Please label all items with your child’s name and grade so that we can return them to your family.
Sincerely,
Diana C. Girskis
