Family Messenger, September 13, 2011

Holy God,
You sent your son, Jesus into the world
to be the light of the world.
May this Christ light burn brightly
in all we do and say, so that your love
may be known on earth as it is in heaven.
Amen.

A Message from the Principal

As you know, the first floor classrooms were equipped with air conditioning units before the beginning of the school year. The second floor phase is in process and is more complex than the first floor phase, requiring mechanical and electrical engineering. Plans were submitted to the City of Glendale and have been approved! We are now preparing to send the plans to the Archdiocese Construction Department for approval.

Next Wednesday, September 21st is our first General PTO Meeting of the year at 7:00 p.m. in the auditorium. Child care will be provided, and free dress passes for students will be distributed at the end of the meeting. The PTO Board and I hope to see you there!

Sincerely,

Ms. Olivia Carrillo

Spanish Classes

Spanish class begins this week. If you have enrolled in the program, students in grades K, 1, and 2 will meet on Tuesdays and grades 3, 4, and 5 will meet on Thursdays. All classes will be held in the first grade classroom and will be from 3:00 – 3:45.

Back to School Night
This Thursday, September 15th is Back to School Night for parents of students in grades 1 through 5. The evening will begin at 6:30 p.m. in your child’s homeroom class. Two sessions will be offered: Session 1 begins at 6:30 and Session 2 begins at 7:05. (Please note that that 5th grade Session 1 will be held in the 6th grade classroom.) The book fair will be open this evening.

Back to School Night for parents of students in grades 6 through 8 is Thursday, September 22nd beginning at 6:00 p.m.

Child care will be available both evenings. We encourage at least one parent from each family to attend. Please note that these evenings are intended to help you become familiar with your child’s teacher(s) and classroom expectations, not to discuss individual student progress. If a parent-teacher conference is needed, please make an appointment with your child’s teacher.

ITBS Testing

The Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS) will be administered beginning Monday, September 19th to students in grades 1 -8. Students in grades 3, 5, and 7 will also take the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT). Testing will take place all week, and most testing is scheduled in the morning hours. Please do not schedule any appointments for the week of the 19th so your child is present to take the full battery of tests.

Catechetical Sunday

The Church will celebrate Catechetical Sunday on September 18, 2011, and will focus on the theme “Do This in Memory of Me.” Incarnation School teachers and Religious Education catechists will be called forth during the 9:00 a.m. Mass to be commissioned for their ministry. Catechetical Sunday is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the role that each person plays, by virtue of Baptism, in handing on the faith and being a witness to the Gospel. Catechetical Sunday is an opportunity for all to rededicate themselves to this mission as a community of faith.
